Stacy Wells attended high school and college in Green Bay, then became the youngest female climbing guide at Sylvan Rock Climbing School in the mid 90’s. Wells moved to Lander, Wyoming in 1997 to pursue her passion for climbing and playing in the mountains. She was recruited by NOLS in 1999 to teach climbing, backpacking, mountaineering, winter camping and backcountry telemark skiing. She worked for NOLS full-time as an instructor and staffing coordinator until her daughter was born in 2006. Wells continues to work occasional NOLS expeditions each summer.
In 2003, Wells created a climbing program for children through Lander Parks and Recreation and continues to create, implement and supervise climbing and outdoor education classes for Lander Parks and Recreation. In 2015, she approached CWC Lander Center to create youth outdoor opportunities for the community and continues to add to the list of classes.
Wells hires and supervises college-level interns to assist with Lander Parks and Recreation and CWC Lander Community Education classes for youth outdoor programs which include: outdoor climbing, summer camps and short backpacking trips for Lander kids each summer. Wells is a Wilderness First Responder and volunteers with Fremont County Search and Rescue.
During the school year, Wells teaches a variety of outdoor skills courses for Central Wyoming College including rock climbing, backpacking, backcountry skiing, and mountain biking. Her passion is to help young adults and women develop confidence and leadership skills through outdoor adventures.
