Watching students take ownership of their own learning, broadening their horizons through education is extremely gratifying to me, and only inspires me to continue to do the same thing myself.”

Biography

Lucy Graham is from Aurora, Nebraska. Prior to earning her master’s degree, Graham spent a year doing an internship at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services where she worked in the epidemiology department focusing on chronic disease prevention, particularly cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Graham also spent time working in the athletic department at UNL for four years tutoring student-athletes in biology and biochemistry. Graham met her husband, Riverton native and CWC alumnus Tyler Graham, while attending school in Nebraska.

One of Graham’s favorite parts about working with students is getting to know them and their interests.

“Seeing what they’re passionate about and how they’re going to impact their corner of the world is such a cool thing. Watching students take ownership of their own learning, broadening their horizons through education is extremely gratifying to me, and only inspires me to continue to do the same thing myself. Conversely, I love getting to share one of my passions with them, science!”

Graham’s goal is to relate science to the students, whatever their interests are. When a student who maybe didn’t see the value or relevance of science before, lights up when they see something that resonates with them, or when they understand a tough concept, that’s what makes everything worthwhile to her.

Graham said she loves the atmosphere at CWC. Everyone is welcoming and willing to help, and they work hard to foster an environment that is incredibly conducive to learning.

“The emphasis on personal and community growth is something that sticks out to me–people at CWC truly care about the students and the community.”

Graham has played the violin since she was four years old. She later continued her love of the violin in college earning a degree in music performance. She still enjoys playing the violin. She is a massive book aficionado, particularly historical fiction. She also is a cat lover (we have two cats, Lenny and Ray), a football fan (Huskers all the way! GBR!), a science nerd, and a massive coffee enthusiast.
