    CERTIFICATE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

    The Central Wyoming College Police Academy, a component of the Rocky Mountain Justice Academy, provides an intensive, 46-credit modular curriculum designed to prepare cadets for peace officer certification and professional service. This program combines rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on skills training in defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and firearms to ensure graduates meet the highest standards of disciplined training and ethical conduct. The program is structured as a single-semester “block” schedule to provide a streamlined pathway for cadets to enter law enforcement while offering the option to progress toward an Associate of Arts or Science degree by adding general education requirements later.

    • Admission to the Academy occurs each semester. For the Fall 2026 inaugural cohort, enrollment is intentionally limited to 12 students and is restricted solely to agency-sponsored cadets to ensure a manageable launch
    • Cadet Categories
      • Agency-Sponsored Cadet: A candidate currently employed or officially sponsored by a Wyoming law enforcement agency. These individuals are pre-vetted by their hiring agency, having already completed background checks, psychological evaluations, drug screenings, and medical evaluations
      • Pre-Service Cadet: An independent student not currently employed by an agency. These applicants must undergo a rigorous vetting process independently, including a background check, psychological evaluation, and medical clearance. Note: Pre-service applications are not being accepted for the Fall 2026 term
    • Admission Requirements
      • CWC Application: Applicants must first complete the general Application for Admission to Central Wyoming College
      • Academy Secondary Application: Candidates must submit a program-specific secondary application (Google Form) to categorize their sponsorship status and provide billing/agency information.
      • Age Requirement: Per state statute, cadets must be 21 years of age upon graduation. Consequently, applicants must be at least 20 years and 8 months old at the start of the program.
      • Physical Standard: Applicants must pass an entry-level physical training (PT) standard prior to the program start date to ensure they can meet the more rigorous exit standards required for graduation.

    The application process for the Police Academy is candidate-driven; law enforcement agencies may not fill out applications on a candidate’s behalf for legal and FERPA reasons.

    Steps to Apply:

    •  Step 1: Complete the mainstream CWC application and select the Law Enforcement certification.
    • Step 2: Complete the secondary Academy Application Form and upload required agency billing and FERPA release documentation.

    Central Wyoming College provides reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Cadets are responsible for
    following CWC Disability Services procedures to verify documentation before accommodations can be implemented in the training environment.

    Residential Requirements

    • The Police Academy is a closed-campus, residential program. All non-local cadets are required to live on-campus housing for the duration of the 16-week term. Local students residing in Riverton, Lander, or Shoshoni may be exempt from the housing requirement but are still required to remain on campus for all meals due to the intensive daily schedule.

    The 46-credit curriculum is delivered in phases, moving from foundational learning to integration and final assessment.

    Courses include:

    Pre-service cadets (for future terms) will be eligible to apply for scholarships between October 1st and March 1st. A current FAFSA must be on file with the Financial Aid office to determine eligibility for these competitive awards.

    The Rocky Mountain Justice Academy Cadet Student Handbook establishes the conduct standards, chain of command, and para military procedures specific to the Police Academy environment. All cadets are held to these standards in addition to the general CWC Student Disciplinary Code.
