SPRING MUSIC CONCERT SET FOR APRIL 27

The Central Wyoming College Music Department will present a spring showcase concert on Thursday, April 27, 7pm in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theater.

The concert will feature three ensembles: the Handbell Choir and Collegiate Chorale under the direction of Sharon Dalton and the Concert Band directed by Sarah Trembly. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Handbell Choir will perform two pieces that were originally written for movies, a 1993 arrangement of “Over the Rainbow” and the movie title song “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The choir will also perform a piece by Lew Gillis entitled “Pick a Winner.”

The Collegiate Chorale will perform five pieces, beginning with the African Greeting Song “Hlohonolofatsa.” Two American folk songs follow, including the popular arrangement by James Erb of “Shenandoah” and “Amazing Grace” arranged by Jackson Berkey, which will feature musician Manny Vasquez playing Native American flute. The Chorale will also sing “Norwegian Alleluia” by Kim Andre Arnesen and “Dance for Love” by Z. Randall Stroope.

The concert band will play classic band literature pieces which include “The Thunderer March” by John Philip Sousa and “Anthem for Winds and Percussion” by Claude Smith. The band will also play beautiful lyrical pieces “October” by modern composer Eric Whitacre, and a medley of music from the award-winning musical, “Miss Saigon.” The concert will end will an arrangement of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures At An Exhibition” for a thrilling finale.
