RUSTLER SPOTLIGHT: KERIM VELBAYEV

Kerim Velbayev is a sophomore at Central Wyoming College and has a passion for math. He hails from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and chose CWC because he loves the outdoors and wanted to be part of a tight-knit community. Velbayev is an engineering major and plans to attend a large university like Boston University after he graduates in May.

Velbayev said he admires Evariste Galois because he learned mathematics in only four years and became one of the greatest mathematicians of all-time. Galois is Velbayev’s inspiration for learning math. 

Velbayev is involved in many things on campus on top of being an exceptional student. He is on student Senate as the Campus Activities Board chair, the treasurer for Entrada and is a tutor.

He was nominated by his adviser Laura Phagan.

“Kerim is an outstanding student and leader,” Phagan said. “He has a passion for getting students involved in student life and also wants students to be successful during their time here at CWC.”
