RUSTLER SPOTLIGHT: DARIAN GONZALES

Darian Gonzales is a sophomore who is originally from California but moved to Lander about eight years ago. She decided to attend Central Wyoming College because it was inexpensive and she could raise her son while attending college.

“I’d rather be here where the instructors know you than be at a big university,” Gonzales said. Gonzales will finish her meta major in health science and has already finished the dental assistant program at CWC. She is currently working on her prerequisites for the dental hygiene program this spring and will then attend Sheridan College to finish her associate’s degree in the program.

I feel like I’ve been in school forever but to finally be in the program is exciting. ”

Gonzales said she wasn’t sure where she will get a job after she finishes but she hopes it will be close to family. Gonzales was nominated by Paula Hartbank, education and transfer coach for Student Support Services.

“Darian is pretty much a permanent fixture in the Student Success Center while working on homework when she is not in class. This summer we knew that Darian would be in every single day working on her classes/homework, and she was, Hartbank said. “When not in class or working on homework, Darian can be found hanging out with her little wild guy, Devereux who just turned one. Darian is just a very motivated young woman who has always dreamed about becoming a dental hygienist and will make that dream come true. She’s a hard worker and just a genuinely nice person to have around. She never complains and is always willing to help others as well. Darian is just a great student.”

Gonzales is part of the TRIO program and in her free time she enjoys spending time outside and spending as much time as possible with her son.
