Watt wins McCook tournament; home course proves to be a challenge
Bailee Watt once again took home the winning title at the ladies tournament in McCook, Nebraska. She won by five shots with a two day total of 165. Teammate Sarah Schroefel placed third with a two day total of 174.
“Bailee had a good tournament, putting two solid rounds together for her third win this season,” said Russ Holgate, golf coach. “Bailee leads in points for the women with one more tournament to be played.”
Jarrett Barr also had solid rounds on a tough course at the McCook tournament with rounds of 81-78 for a two day total of 159. Barr tied for fourth overall. Also placing in the top 10 were Braxton Schwartzkoph, who tied for sixth and Breaden McDonald, who tied for eighth.
“This is the best finish for the men as they finished second in our division,” Holgate said. “There was another school in the tournament, Southeastern, who is not in our division who won the tournament. It was a good week for CWC; we are moving our way up the ladder and starting to get noticed as one of the top contenders in our division.”
On the home course this past week Watt finished in second with Schroefel scoring close and finishing in third place. Watt finished her two day total with 131 strokes, just one stroke away from the number one spot and Schroefel had two strokes more than her teammate with a two day total of 133.
Bailee and Sarah both had a good fall season. Combined they won four of six tournaments individually. ”
Russ Holgate, golf coach
The men’s team had a tough end to their season. Barr finished the CWC tournament in 11th with a two day total of 120 and Schwartzkoph finished in 13th with a two day total of 121.
The team’s had a good start on Sunday but the weather was not in their favor as rain took over Fremont County for a cold and wet course on Monday.
“We had a tough finish to our fall season with a shortened tournament to 27 holes because of the weather,” Holgate said. “We would have liked to finish better to end the fall season but sometime you win and sometimes you learn. We have learned a lot about each other and about our team. We have things planned for this winter and the players are excited about the spring season.”
The Rustlers will start their spring season at Otero Junior College March 23-24.
