JAZZ NIGHT FEATURES COLLECTION OF RE-IMAGINED STANDARDS
Central Wyoming College’s spring Jazz Night concert features a collection of what instructor Jason Ogg calls “jazz standards re-imagined.”
The concert is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre. There is no charge for admission.
The Time’s-A-Wastin’ Big Band is playing music “made famous by two of the most venerable ensembles in the history of American music: the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Count Basie Orchestra,” Ogg said.
“Rooster Parade” by Les Hooper features NettaBell Girard and Aaron Baldes, and the talents of Chad Rose and Avery Hatfield are highlighted in Ellington’s “All Too Soon.” Matt Machen and Jon Marquez are featured in “Ornithology” and Sydney Thayer is the standout in “April in Paris.”
The instrumental jazz combo is performing student-created arrangements of well-known jazz standards. The combo is playing NettaBell Girard’s arrangement of Thelonious Monk’s “Blue Monk” and Misty Waters’ arrangement of “Blue Bossa.”
Also performing is the vocal jazz ensemble JAZZMAGIC.
