CWC PREMIERES DOCUMENTARY ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Central Wyoming College observes Domestic Violence Awareness Week with multiple events including the national television premiere of a documentary that tells stories of battered women imprisoned for defending themselves against their attackers.
On Monday, October 17, Sin by Silence is shown at 6 p.m. in the Little Theatre. The film goes inside California’s oldest women’s prison, where the first inmate-initiated and led group in the U.S. prison system was created by inmate Brenda Clubine to help abused women speak out and realize they are not alone. Over the past two decades, the women of Convicted Women Against Abuse, have changed laws for battered women and raised awareness for those on the outside.
Following the screening of the documentary, Stacy Crosley, the daughter of one of the women featured in the film, moderates a discussion.
On Tuesday, October 18, fans attending the 7 p.m. home volleyball match between CWC and Casper College are presented with purple ribbons to mark the occasion. “Everyone is encouraged to wear purple in addition to their orange and black,” said event organizer Lance Goede.
