WARE RECIPIENT OF CWC AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLAR AWARD

Jade Ware celebrates being a graduate during the CWC graduation parade.

Jade Ware, 2020 Central Wyoming College graduate in secondary education, is the recipient of the American Indian Scholar Award. The award, which is usually announced during commencement, was given to Ware early because CWC’s commencement has moved to a virtual platform due to the health requirements of the COVID-19 virus.

Ware, from Fort Washakie, Wyoming, is a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and was recruited to CWC on a basketball scholarship after she graduated from Lander Valley High School in 2018.

Jade has shown commitment and dedication to her journey into college life. She’s such a respectful and kind young tribal lady that is showing other young people the example of exceeding in athletics and academically at the college level. She’s a great young person overall. ”

Posey is charged with selecting the American Indian Scholar Award recipient annually. The award is given to a student who excels academically and carries a high grade point average. Ware has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her time at CWC and graduated in May with an Associate of Arts in Secondary Education.

“What an incredible honor for Jade to receive,” said Lindsey Fearing, CWC women’s basketball coach. “I’m so proud of her as she is the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete and what kind of people we want in and leading our women’s basketball program. Walking away with a 4.0 every semester since she’s been on the team, is not easy but she showed resilience and absolute dedication to both school and basketball. She is going to have an incredible career in teaching and I look forward to her teaching the next generation.”

“Jade is a hard-working young woman with a very bright future,” said Dr. Cory Daly, vice president of student affairs. “She has made an impression on CWC and we are excited about her future.”

Ware is narrowing down her options to attend the University of Wyoming or a college in New Mexico this fall, where she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in secondary education.

“To be chosen as the American Indian Scholar Award is a tremendous honor and Jade Ware is certainly deserving. Her exemplary academic performance and leadership on our campus as a student-athlete has been evident throughout her time at CWC. I look forward to seeing where her path leads her as she continues with her education,” CWC President Brad Tyndall said.
