CWC OFFERS ACTIVE SHOOTER AND SELF-AWARENESS TRAINING FOR JACKSON COMMUNITY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS

CWC OFFERS ACTIVE SHOOTER AND SELF-AWARENESS TRAINING FOR JACKSON COMMUNITY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS

Refuse to be a victim sign

Since January 2016, the Central Wyoming College Campus Security team has been training community members, students, and staff, in more than eighty different organizations from around the state of Wyoming to respond to an active shooter threat. The team of instructors brings a combined eighty years of prior law enforcement experience to share with participants.

The upcoming Jackson active-shooter training scheduled for Thursday, June 17, from 1-5 pm, is called A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown. Inform, Counter, Evacuate.) The goal is to prepare the participants to respond to an active shooter threat using techniques and practices demonstrated to improve a person’s survival odds significantly.

The course teaches proactive survival strategies that any individual can easily implement with everyday items in classrooms, office buildings, etc. It focuses on the survival strategies a person can use to bridge the critical time from the beginning of the event until law enforcement arrives ”

This proactive approach is recommended by the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Department of Education, and many state and local law enforcement agencies.

In addition to teaching survival strategies, the training teaches active shooter mindsets, probabilities, statistics, and what to expect from law enforcement agencies during an event when they arrive on the scene.

Participants will have the opportunity to experience a live active shooter drill to demonstrate the advantages of an option-based response versus a traditional lockdown. Due to the experiential nature of the exercise, the training is limited to twenty-two participants and has specific clothing requirements. The Jackson self-awareness training scheduled for Friday, June 18, from 8:30 – 12:00, is called “Refuse to be a Victim.”

Experts agree that if you develop a safety plan BEFORE you need it, you increase your odds of preventing criminal confrontations.  Again, this seminar taught by CWC security experts with more than eighty years of collective law enforcement experience in the field helps participants learn the tools they need to develop personal safety strategies.

The seminar covers specific topics, including the psychology of criminal predators, home and cybersecurity, automobile and travel security, personal and technological security, self-defense devices and training, options, and more!
