Central Wyoming College Offers Free Career-Boosting Courses Through Recompete Grant

Fort Washakie, Wyo.Central Wyoming College is offering Fremont County residents the opportunity to advance their careers through free training and education programs made possible by the federal Recompete grant. The initiative provides local adults with support, skills training and financial assistance to help them enter or advance in the workforce.

The ServSafe Certification Course (CULA 1505 – Sanitation, 1 credit) helps participants build essential food safety and sanitation skills for professional kitchens. Over six sessions, students learn best practices for maintaining health standards and preparing for the ServSafe exam, a nationally recognized credential valued in the foodservice industry. Course options include Mondays and Wednesdays, Nov. 3–19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Frank B. Wise Building in Fort Washakie, or Monday through Thursday, Dec. 1–4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at a Riverton location to be determined.

The Workforce Training: Career Essentials course (PFDV 1500, 3 credits) helps participants develop the communication, technology and professional readiness skills employers value most. The six-week hybrid course includes creating a personalized career portfolio and building workplace confidence. Laptops are provided for all participants. The class meets Wednesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 29–Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Frank B. Wise Building in Fort Washakie. Participants ages 25 to 54 are eligible for scholarships and financial aid, and assistance is available throughout the application process.

Adults who have not completed high school can also earn their High School Equivalency (HiSET) through the Recompete program. Enrollment is open year-round, and participants are encouraged to enroll in both the HiSET and Workforce Training courses to gain comprehensive career preparation. Program benefits include flexible enrollment with start-anytime options, individualized support from application to completion, and the opportunity to build job-ready skills while earning a high school equivalency.
