Central Wyoming College announces open enrollment for ESL classes

JACKSON, Wyo. — Central Wyoming College invites applicants for ESL classes for the upcoming spring semester. English as a Second Language (ESL) is one of the most important tools students today can access. Good English language skills can open up exciting new opportunities and help individuals reach their full potential for work, everyday life and college-level courses.

“Our teachers care about our students’ success, and we understand that every single lesson can make a difference,” says Christy Pyles, CWC Program Director. “Students in our program will learn skills that will empower their career goals and educational opportunities. Space is limited, so I encourage people to get their applications in soon.”

In addition to the ESL classes, Central Wyoming College offers a work and career development program in collaboration with St. John’s Health. Students in this program are dedicated to enhancing their language skills for work and career pathway development.

“We are excited to share that on October 19, eight students from this program began their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training,” adds Pyles.

The program is funded through a three-year Federal ARPA grant.

Expanding the program’s reach, 34 students in the Jackson area have enrolled in ESL courses for the Fall term. This includes five students in the Beginning level, seven in Intermediate, five in Advanced, and 17 in our ARPA-IET program in partnership with St. John’s Health. CWC is committed to providing a comprehensive learning experience to all of its students.

To enhance the learning process, CWC have implemented a standardized curriculum across all of its ESL courses, utilizing National Geographic Learning materials. Similar to Essential Ed., students can access supplementary lessons through an app on their phone, tablet, or computer, further enriching their in-class instruction.

Central Wyoming College’s ESL classes are funded through the U.S. Department of Education’s Adult Education and Family Literacy Act grant; and a combination of State and Federal funds, which fall under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act family of federal funding. This funding ensures that Central Wyoming College’s program can continue to provide high-quality education to students.

People interested in enhancing their English language skills are welcome to reach out to Central Wyoming College to explore new possibilities.
