THEATER SHOWCASE OFFERS DIFFERENT SHOWS EACH TIME

Central Wyoming College’s 11th annual showcase of student-directed plays provides two different evenings of comedy, music and drama over a four-day period.
The Showcase is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 10, 11 and 12, and a 2:30 p.m. matinee is performed on Sunday, April 13. The Thursday and Saturday performances feature the work of group A, and on Friday and Sunday, group B entertains audiences.
Tickets for the show are free though it is suggested audience members reserve tickets at the Arts Center Box Office because seating at each performance is limited to 90. Tickets may be ordered by calling 855-2002 or can be picked up at the Box Office which is open 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The actors perform “arena style” in the Arts Center’s Dance Studio. The audience sits on all four sides.

Showcase 2014 features three dramatic pieces, a musical and a whole lot of comedy. “Some are one acts and the others are sketches,” explained Director Mike Myers who created the Showcase as a culminating project in his directing course.

“This is the most important class we teach,” he said of the work of eleven directors who are rehearsing 20 different theater pieces. “They are responsible for all aspects of the show. It’s good experience for them.”

Two of pieces in the show are original. Aaron King has written the music and lyrics for a musical short Eyeing Diamonds and Rachael Rowan is the creator of Twisted.

All of the pieces are rated PG with the exception of the final act which is rated R, and audience members have the option to leave before it is performed.

“This is my favorite thing we do each year,” Myers said. “It’s a chance to do more avant garde experimental stuff that we couldn’t do in the big theater.”
