FORMER CWC VICE PRESIDENT PASSES

Joe Dolan former VP and Dean of Academic Services

Central Wyoming College faculty and staff received news last week that former Vice President and Dean of Academic Services, Dr. Joseph Dolan had passed away in Greeley, Colorado. Dr. Dolan made significant contributions to the college during his thirty years of service at CWC, impacting students, employees and the community as well as his colleagues on a statewide and regional basis.

Dr. Joe Dolan joined the Central Wyoming College faculty shortly after the college opened its doors, and, thirty years later upon his retirement as Academic Vice President, left a lasting legacy of teaching excellence. His contributions to the college were innumerable; if not for Dr. Dolan's sheer determination and hard work, the CWC Nursing Program would not have been established. Known for his keen intellect, outgoing nature, approachability and delightful sense of humor, he was sought out by colleagues, students and friends alike. We are all better for having known such a wise, warm and generous man. ”

In the early nineties, Dr. Dolan was the driving force behind CWC’s technology initiatives, seeking opportunities through grant procurement and technology training as well as business partnerships.   CWC was awarded a $1.75 million Title III grant to incorporate technology in the curriculum shortly followed by a $10 million Stars Schools grant to develop a comprehensive distance education system. The college became known as a technology leader and Dr. Dolan became highly sought after to give presentations at national conferences for the work he accomplished.

Though his mark as an administrator and innovator at CWC was very impactful, he also influenced many students and staff with his kind and thoughtful behavior. Known fondly as Mr. Christmas, Dr. Dolan decorated trees on campus each year during the holiday season, many of which he had planted. He always attended events on campus, from recitals to rodeos and was remembered as a particularly empathetic listener.

“Our condolences go out to Dr. Dolan’s family and friends during this very difficult time.  He was a part of the very fabric of CWC’s history and we have so much to be thankful for that he shared his gifts with us,” President Brad Tyndall said. “He continues to touch the lives of employees and students at CWC, our communities and our state with the work he accomplished as an educator and a leader. Many people have reached out to me to share their fond memories of Dr. Dolan.”

Memorial contributions can be made in Dr. Dolan’s name to the University of Colorado Hospital LVAD Patient Fund in care of Adamson Funeral Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO. 80634. You can share memories and condolences with Dr. Dolan’s family at AdamsonCares.com.
