GROWING FORENSICS TEAM GETS HELP FROM NEW MEMBERS

A Central Wyoming College forensics team that has grown with new competitors returned successful from a pair of tournaments held over the weekend at Laramie County Community College.
The first tournament featured both speech and debate events while the second featured only speech events.

Competing for CWC for the first time in an event she had never tried before, Riley Moore placed fourth in the open, or varsity division, of persuasive speaking at both tournaments. Against competition with schools from Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and Wyoming, Moore was one of only two competitors in the event to make it to the final round in both tournaments, Coach Joshua House said.

At the second tournament Moore successfully bested two of the three competitors that placed ahead of her at the first tournament. Moore was also CWC’s top competitor in the open division of impromptu speaking at the first tournament.

“It was really neat to make it to finals at my first tournament as a CWC speech and debate member,” Moore said after the tournament. “The best part was the support that I got from my teammates. Every single one of them came to those final rounds and their encouragement made all the difference.”

New members of the team, Ashlee Enos and Alyssa Noseep-Armajo, who came to the team with no prior experience, won their second ever debate in the novice division of parliamentary debate against Colorado State. According to the judges at the tournament, House said it was clear that the two showed significant improvement from the beginning of the tournaments until the end. Noseep-Armajo was also CWC’s top competitor in the open division of extemporaneous speaking at the second tournament.

Also competing in the novice division of parliamentary debate, Danielle Gray and team newcomer Georgianna Holley were one very close decision away from earning trophies of their own., House said. After defeating teams from Eastern Wyoming College and Texas Southern University the pair lost to eventual novice division champions Casper College in their final preliminary debate. Gray was also CWC’s top competitor in the open division of extemporaneous speaking at the first tournament and was CWC’s top open Impromptu speaker at the second tournament.

Mason Webb and Garret Vonkrosigk narrowly missed advancing to elimination rounds in the open division of Parliamentary Debate after defeating teams from the Air Force Academy and Northwest College due to a controversial decision against them in their debate against Colorado College.
