CWC FALL MUSIC SHOWCASES BRING CHORAL, HANDBELL, CONCERT BAND AND JAZZ PERFORMANCES TO THE STAGE

RIVERTON, Wyo. — Central Wyoming College’s music ensembles will take the stage for two free fall concerts in October, offering audiences everything from handbells and choral music to concert band favorites, jazz standards and a few selections fitting for the Halloween season.

The Fall Choral Showcase will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., followed by the Fall Bands Showcase Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. Both performances will take place in the Peck Arts Center Theatre on the CWC Riverton campus and are free and open to the public.

The Fall Choral Showcase will begin with the CWC Handbell Choir performing five selections that highlight the range and versatility of the ensemble. Reflective pieces including “Nightfall” and “A Time for Piece” will be contrasted by the triumphant sounds of “Where Courage Begins” and “Brighter Days.” The ensemble will also perform the recognizable “Chopsticks Waltz,” showcasing the speed and precision of the handbell musicians.

The Collegiate Chorale will perform six selections during the second half of the concert. The choir will open with a nod to the Halloween season with “The Ghost of John” before moving through a varied program that includes “Velvet Shoes,” “Shine on Me,” “Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia” and the Irish folksong “May a Rainbow Run Beside You.” The concert will conclude with a special sing-along tribute to Dolly Parton.

Three days later, CWC’s instrumental musicians will take the stage for the Fall Bands Showcase.

The CWC College Band will open with the fiery “Fanfare Esprit,” followed by “Haunted Carousel,” a Halloween-inspired piece featuring the unusual sound of the theremin. The program will also include an instrumental version of Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria,” followed by “March Gloria” and Václav Nelhýbel’s powerful “Festivo.”

The second half of the evening will feature Time’s a Wastin’ Jazz Ensemble. The group will perform instrumental swing selections before being joined by vocalists for a mix of jazz standards and contemporary music, including “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Unforgettable” and “From the Start.”

With the concert falling the night before Halloween, the jazz ensemble will close the evening with Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.”

Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre at Central Wyoming College. Admission is free, and community members are encouraged to attend.
