Central Wyoming College Launches Free Bridge Program to Help First-Generation and Returning Students Start Strong

 Central Wyoming College (CWC) is launching a new, free Bridge Program designed to help first-generation students build confidence, make connections, and successfully transition into college before the fall semester begins.

The three-day program will take place Monday, Aug. 17, through Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Central Wyoming College’s Intertribal Education and Community Center (ITECC), 2660 Peck Ave., Riverton, Wyoming. The program is offered at no cost and is open to incoming first-generation students and first-generation students returning to college after a break of two years or more.

The Bridge Program schedule includes:

• Monday, Aug. 17, 2–8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 18, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 19, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

The program concludes just before New Student Orientation on Friday, Aug. 21, giving participants the opportunity to begin the semester feeling prepared, connected, and ready for success.

A first-generation student is defined as a student whose parent or guardian has not earned a bachelor’s degree.

“The transition to college can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming,” says Rory Tendore, Central Wyoming College American Indian Student Success Coordinator. “The Bridge Program is designed to help students feel like they belong before classes even begin. We want every participant to know they have a community behind them, people they can turn to, and the confidence to navigate college successfully. At Central Wyoming College, relationships matter, and this program is one more way we demonstrate our commitment to every student’s success.”

Throughout the three-day experience, participants will become familiar with campus, meet faculty and staff, connect with current students and alumni, and explore the many resources available to support them throughout their educational journey.

Students will receive:

• Personalized campus tours and overviews of student resources
• Opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, current students, and alumni
• Hands-on technology walkthroughs to prepare for classroom learning
• Information about student clubs, organizations, and campus involvement
• Financial aid guidance and resources
• Academic and student support services
• Campus safety and security information

The Bridge Program is intentionally designed to create a welcoming, supportive environment where students can ask questions, build friendships, and develop the skills and confidence needed for a successful first semester.
