Riverton, Wyo.Central Wyoming College Theatre invites audiences into a world of memory, mystery and renewal with its upcoming production of “The Secret Garden,” opening March 19 at the Robert A. Peck Arts Center. Performances run March 19-29 at 7 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The beloved musical will feature nine performances and a cast of 25 performers and the Youth Chorus, bringing youthful energy and emotional depth to the production. The production runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, including one intermission.

Based on the classic story, “The Secret Garden” follows young Mary Lennox as she arrives at the shadowed Misselthwaite Manor and discovers a hidden garden – and in it, the power of healing, hope, and transformation. Guided by the “Dreamers,” figures who embody memories of the past, Mary’s journey unfolds through hauntingly beautiful music and a story that continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.

“It has been an amazing opportunity to direct this incredible cast and help bring to life such a beautiful show,” said director Annette Benn Thornton. “There’s a quote from The Secret Garden that goes, ‘Where you tend a rose, a thistle cannot grow.’ So I look at rehearsal as tending roses, because we are doing something that can grow a community. We give our audiences a reason to put down their phones and gather to experience music and story that is life affirming.”

Rehearsals are in full swing, with costume rehearsals scheduled for March 13 as the production team prepares to transport audiences into the sepia-toned world of Misselthwaite Manor.

Stage Manager Kadie Crook emphasized the collaborative effort behind the scenes. “It’s been exciting to work with a cast and crew this committed,” Crook said. “From the Dreamers to the ensemble moments, every detail matters. We’re creating something moving and meaningful, and we can’t wait to share it with our community.”
