Rev Up Your Future This Spring with Central Wyoming College’s Automotive Technology Program

Riverton, Wyo. — Spring registration is underway at Central Wyoming College (CWC), and students ready to turn their passion for cars into a career are invited to explore the college’s Automotive Technology program – where hands-on learning meets real-world demand.

Designed for students with minimal prior experience, the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology provides a strong foundation in diagnosing, servicing, and repairing automobiles and pickup trucks. Students gain practical experience through extensive lab work while building critical skills in communication, problem-solving, and technology that employers value.

The Automotive Technology program emphasizes hands-on learning and industry-relevant training that prepares students for today’s workforce. Through practical experience with modern vehicle systems and diagnostic tools, students develop the problem-solving skills and technical mindset needed to succeed as professional automotive technicians.

Coursework reflects the rapidly evolving automotive industry, covering computerized electronic control systems, diagnostic techniques, recommended service procedures, customer service, and sound business practices. Classroom instruction is paired with immersive lab experiences, ensuring students train on real vehicles using industry-relevant tools.

Among those tools is CWC’s professional-grade dynamometer, a cutting-edge diagnostic machine that allows students to test and analyze vehicle performance in real time. This advanced equipment brings industry-level learning directly into the shop, giving students a competitive edge as they enter the workforce.

For students seeking a faster path to employment, CWC also offers Automotive Technology certificates. Certificate I programs can be completed in two semesters, while Certificate II programs provide a streamlined, one-semester option focused on essential skills.

CWC’s Automotive Technology program is further strengthened by national recognition and investment. The college was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000 from Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation, supporting workforce training and elevating the importance of skilled trades education.

“Central Wyoming College is excited to be part of something that’s elevating career paths where people can be really successful,” said CWC President Brad Tyndall. “Trades like automotive technology are desperately needed in our communities, and this program gives students the opportunity to build a future right here in Wyoming.”

As demand for skilled automotive technicians continues to grow, CWC’s Automotive Technology program offers a direct, affordable pathway to a high-demand career.
