Turn Passion into a Profession This Spring with Central Wyoming College’s Culinary Arts Program
Riverton, Wyo. — Whether launching a new career or building on existing experience, individuals with a passion for food can enroll in Central Wyoming College’s Culinary Arts program with spring registration now open. The college’s Culinary Arts program offers hands-on training, industry experience, and flexible pathways designed to prepare graduates for success in the culinary and hospitality industry.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Culinary Arts prepares students for a wide range of mid-level positions in professional kitchens, hospitality operations, and food service settings. The program’s unique curriculum blends full-length semester courses with condensed offerings, creating a dynamic learning experience that mirrors the fast-paced nature of the industry.
“Our goal is to prepare students for real kitchens and real careers,” said Justin Stone, Director of Hospitality and Culinary programs. “From foundational techniques to understanding the culture and business of food service, students graduate with skills they can use immediately.”
Core culinary courses emphasize practical, hands-on learning in professional kitchen environments. Students develop fundamental cooking skills, explore diverse cuisines and food styles, and gain an understanding of the history and operations of the service trades. General education coursework builds critical and analytical thinking, communication skills, and business knowledge essential for long-term career growth.
Students are highly encouraged to participate in industry work experiences, allowing them to gain real-world skills, build professional relationships, and explore multiple career paths within the culinary and hospitality fields.
In addition to the degree program, CWC offers Culinary Arts Certificates. These certificates are designed to meet students where they are, whether they are just entering their culinary careers or want to advance their skills as industry professionals. Certificate programs are ideal for students seeking a faster entry into the workforce or advancement to the next level.
The Culinary Arts program courses are offered at the CWC Jackson in Teton County and in Fremont County on the Riverton and Lander campuses as well as at the Frank B. Wise Center, expanding access to students across the region.
This spring, CWC is also offering courses from the culinary program through the Recompete Grant Program, designed for adults ages 25-54 looking to upskill or reenter the workforce. The Recompete Program offers eligible students tuition-free training. Two ServSafe courses are scheduled:
Students interested in the Recompete Culinary program can contact Cindy Hayford at 307-855-2019 or chayford@cwc.edu for more information.
To succeed in the culinary and hospitality industry, students should bring a passion for cooking, dependability, teamwork, and a commitment to quality. CWC’s program is designed to cultivate those traits while providing the technical skills, certifications, and experience employers seek.
Spring Registration is now open.
