Central Wyoming College Expands Workforce Training Opportunities through Recompete Grant

Fort Washakie, Wyo. — Central Wyoming College (CWC) is opening doors to new career opportunities this fall with skill-building courses offered in Fort Washakie and Lander. Supported through CWC’s Recompete program, these classes are designed to help adults earn valuable industry-recognized credentials, build employability skills, and strengthen career pathways.

Upcoming Courses:

  • Trailbuilding Professional Certificate I, (ENR 1005–Trailbuilding  I, 3 credits) 
    10-week course preparing students to design, construct, and maintain multi-use single-track trails using hand tools
    Starts Tuesday, Sept. 23  | Alpine Science Institute, 44 Central Wyoming College Way, Lander, WY

  • ServSafe Certification Course (CULA 1505 – Sanitation, 1 credit)
    A condensed two-week class with hands-on training and the ServSafe, culinary certification test.
    Starts Monday, September 29 | Frank B. Wise Building, 3 Ethete Rd., Fort Washakie

  • Food Principles and Safety (CULA 1500, 3 credits)
    A longer course offering ServSafe certification preparation and testing, along with deeper instruction in food safety and principles.
    October 13 – December 12 | Lander, Meadowlark Market and Kitchen, 228 Main Street, Lander, WY 82520

  • Workforce Training Career Essentials (PFDV 1500 – Managing Career Development, 3 credits)
    A six-week online/hybrid course that builds personal, workplace, and technical skills for any career. Students earn the Career Essentials credential and create a professional career portfolio. Laptops will be provided.
    October 29 – December 12 | Wednesdays & Thursdays, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. | Frank B. Wise Building, Fort Washakie

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    A five-week classroom, hands on skills lab and supervised hands on clinical course. Successful completion prepares students to take the Wyoming State CNA Certification exam. A CNA works under the supervision of a registered nurse or other licensed health professional to provide basic care to patients in a variety of settings.

October 6 – November 6 | Class/Skills lab at CWC Health and Science Building: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; Supervised Clinicals at Westward Heights Care Center: November 3 & 4, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and November 5 & 6, 7 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Adults ages 25–54 may qualify for scholarship and financial aid through the Recompete program, which helps participants return to school, gain new skills, and advance into stronger career opportunities.

“As we continue to grow workforce training in our region, these courses are about giving people practical skills and recognized credentials that employers value,” says Brittany Yeates, Dean of Business & Industry. “The Recompete program makes it possible for more adults to access these opportunities at little or no cost.”
