Moving Forward from the Start-Up Intensive

The morning after I graduate with my mini MBA from Central Wyoming College’s Start-Up Intensive, I get an email that encapsulates some of my thoughts from Sandy Hessler, the primary instructor for the 10-week course.

I hope you woke up this morning and took a moment to reflect on what you’ve accomplished and the foundation you’ve created for yourself — and then smile to yourself with a big YES!!

It was an intense 10 weeks as we asked each other and ourselves to be open, think differently, be vulnerable, pivot when needed and go for It.

Now the work really begins. Step by step. No Hail Marys. Just small steps each week to continue to learn, reach out and create your action plan.

Yep. That says it pretty well. While I need a break from my business after living an overly busy life for 10 weeks, I know each day is a new step forward for me and my new business, Upstart Road.

I’m not the only one who feels this way. I also have an email in my inbox from Maggie Moore, who is starting an art appraisal business called Artemis Art Advisory.

She is already taking her own break in New York City, where she lived previously as part of her art education.

I arrived in Brooklyn this evening and after some time to reflect on the plane I immediately went down to the waterfront. Two signs/words really stood out and they seem to perfectly capture how I feel right now: “Relief” that the presentations are over, and “Understanding” more about myself and my vision for the future. I have loved sharing this journey with you all this spring and I hope it continues as we move ahead.

Yep. That too. Feeling immense relief after one of the most intense periods of my life, and I definitely understand myself better.

I’ve had to pivot along the way. Hard. But I’m gearing up for a new life, and that’s where the third word that Maggie didn’t see should fit:

“Psyched.”

I’m so excited to see what comes of this. Our class has set up a light structure for staying in touch and holding each other accountable for where we’re heading with our businesses. ”

We’re part of a network of driven people who all want to see each other leap their hurdles, jump off the entrepreneurial cliff, and simply change our lives and the lives of those around us through our businesses.

And you know what? That’s pretty darn powerful.
