Jessika Lawrence is a sophomore from Riverton who wasn’t sure she wanted to come to CWC but when she received word that she had earned scholarships through GEAR UP it was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.

“They helped me with the decision,” Lawrence said. Lawrence said at first she wasn’t sure what she wanted to study.

“I enjoy art so I started an art degree and then I started early childhood but now I’m wanting to do art education,” Lawrence said. “I like kids and I thought maybe to pursue a career with children but with art as well. I can teach a few classes and enjoy art.”

Lawrence plans to finish her associate’s degree and transfer to another college to earn a bachelors. She is a GEAR UP mentor and enjoys drawing and hanging out with friends. She is also involved in TRiO.

I really like the environment and the people here; everyone is friendly and helpful. ”

Lawrence was nominated by Nicole Pouget, library director.

“Jessika has a positive attitude and brings an optimistic can do attitude when she works in the library,” Pouget said. “She is supportive of her peers and the library staff. Jessika takes on tasks with gusto and goes above and beyond expectations while providing a creative touch to her assigned projects. She shows school spirit and leads the way with great ideas.”
