Student Art Show on Display

Central Wyoming College art students had a reception featuring artwork from the academic year Tuesday night at the Robert A. Peck Art Center.

The art reception was open to the public and featured 13 different categories of artwork: drawing, ceramics, advanced ceramics, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography, advanced photography, digital photography, digital imaging, sculpture, glass and an open category.

“The students did an enormous amount of work to get to this,” said Lonnie Slack, professor of photography at CWC. “We had some tears, blood and mental breakdowns along the way.”

The artwork was judged by Cristin Zimmer, a ceramicist and painter from Lander who has a master’s of fine arts degree. A winner was announced for each category as well as a best in show and a people’s choice award. Each category winner received $50. Best in show winner, Alec Gaddie received $150 for her photograph titled “Rust Bucket.” People’s choice award went to Evandra Hereford for her digital photo titled “Shoshone Mission.” She also received $150.

CWC has one student art show a year.

“A lot of people really love this time of year,” Slack said.

The student art show gallery will be open for viewing until May 3. Some of the artwork on display is for sale.

“Seven pieces have been sold so far,” said Slack “they have sold more this year than the last few years.”
