WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST DISCUSSES BOOK ON ELK

Jackson wildlife biologist Bruce Smith discusses his new book “Where Elk Roam” at Central Wyoming College Friday, October 7.

Smith, who worked on the elk refuge near Jackson for 22 years, talks about the book at 3:30 p.m. in room 125 of the CWC Intertribal Education and Community Center.

“Where Elk Roam” is the first book published in 60 years on the elk herd at Jackson and discusses the herd’s ecology, management and the controversies surrounding the crowding of thousands of elk on the feed grounds each winter.

The book, which is released in October from Lyons Press, is said to bring clarity to the “most complex wildlife management situation in North America.”

The book by the now retired biologist would be of interest to anyone interested in the biology and conservation of elk, elk hunting, predator-prey relationships, the work of wildlife biologists in sustaining wildlife and the economic and political considerations that override science in the formulation of resource policy.

The biologist-turned-writer’s visit is sponsored by the CWC Library.
