Student Profile: Lily Swanson

I graduated from Lander (High School) and am currently planning on majoring in social work, with the hopes of becoming a counselor or social worker.

At the moment I am also studying to become a personal trainer, something that has been appealing to me for many years, the idea of being able to help people improve their quality of life is amazing.

I love doing anything outdoors or with my family and friends, especially camping and hiking. Traveling to different places and experiencing new things is super fun to me, and I appreciate that I am able to do that with my friends since CWC is a lot more affordable than other schools.

I worked as a CNA this summer up until school started, but then realized that I wanted something that would allow me to focus on school, and where I could get to know the people at CWC more, and create more of a sense of community for myself, as that has always been very important to me. Being an intern for Steve (Barlow) has turned into by far the best job I have ever had, I get to learn and do new things every day, and I have been able to meet many new people who have definitely added to my life.

The main deciding factor for me to go to CWC was that it is close enough to my family, and living at the dorms has given me some independence which was something I really wanted. While on my tour here seeing and hearing about the small class sizes really appealed to me. It is really great being able to have a relationship with all of my teachers, and knowing that they actually care about every student, and work with each one, compared to a bigger university where teachers usually don’t even know their students names.

Overall I have been able to find a great group of friends here at CWC, and through working and attending the activities hosted by housing I have found a amazing sense of community, and support.
