CWC MOVES TO PHASE I
November 11, 2020 – Central Wyoming College announced Wednesday, November 11 that they will move to phase one of their COVID reopening plan. The plan, which will close the campus to the community, will also move all courses to remote instruction. All employees who can work remotely will start the transition to work virtually starting Monday, November 16.
“Though we had planned to move to remote instruction after the Thanksgiving Break, the Emergency Response Team felt it necessary to transition the campus back to Phase I sooner,” Incident Commander of the COVID team Dr. Kathy Wells said. “Fortunately, we have been planning for this contingency, so we will work to accomplish this with as little disruption to our students as possible.”
The decision was made by the CWC Emergency Response Team after seeing a continuous number of benchmarks identified as “critical” rather than “stable” when assessing the ability to continue to safely serve students on campus.
We have been monitoring our dashboard as it has changed dramatically in the past 24 hours. Our state percent of positives has significantly increased (more than 20% now) in the past two weeks and our community healthcare systems are very stressed. With the health and safety of our students and staff our priority, after considering multiple data points, moving to remote learning a week earlier than originally planned is the right decision now. ”
Dr. Kathy Wells, incident commander of the COVID team
All CWC campuses will be closed to the public and all events canceled from November 16 until January 4, 2021. Essential services such as tutoring, counseling, and academic advising, will be available by appointment only. Other services such as financial aid, admissions, and registration will be available virtually. For department contact information please go to www.cwc.edu/about/directory/
Students living in dorms will be transitioned to moving back home sooner than the original expected date, which was set for Thanksgiving break. Students who can transition home will start the process on Saturday. Students who need to stay on campus, however, will work with the dean of students, Steve Barlow, to create a plan to remain in campus housing.
“Student safety is always our priority,” Barlow said. “We know that the best place for students right now is their home, where they can finish their semester strong and maintain their health.”
CWC will be in phase one until the start of the spring 2021 semester. ERT will reevaluate circumstances and make a plan for next semester by December 22. Spring semester is set to start January 11, 2021.
CWC will continue to operate virtually by assisting students and the community for any needs. For all information regarding COVID-19, please go to www.cwc.edu/coronavirus.
