SECOND FORENSICS STUDENT QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Competing at a pair of tournaments at the University of Utah last weekend, the Central Wyoming College speech and debate team qualified a second student for a national tournament and was recognized as the top junior competitors.
Daryon Baumberger, in her first year at CWC, finished second in the After Dinner Speaking class which qualified her for the National Individual Events Tournament at Arizona State University. She joins teammate Riley Moore representing CWC at the tournament in April.
In all, the young CWC team brought back a dozen awards from two tournaments, including the recognition as the top team of schools with less than two years of college experience.
Baumberger also competed in Duo Interpretation with fellow Lead-Deadwood High graduate Jordon Barthel. At the first half the pair placed third in the event and was recognized as the top junior competitors. At the second half they finished in fourth place.
“Barthel had an impressive weekend himself,” Forensics Coach Josh House said. He made the final round of two other events. At the first tournament, Barthel finished seventh in impromptu speaking and was recognized as the second place junior speaker. At the second tournament he joined Baumberger in the final round of After Dinner Speaking, where he placed fifth and finished third among junior competitors.
“I am incredibly proud of all of my students, and I’m happy that all of the hard work they are putting in is paying off,” House said.
