SHOWCASE CONCERT NOV. 22

The Central Wyoming College Music Department presents its annual Fall Showcase Concert Tuesday, November 22in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre.

The 7:30 p.m. performance features the CWC Concert Band, the Collegiate Chorale and the Handbell Choir.

The Concert Band is conducted by CWC’s new Director of Bands Andy Peeks. The band plays two pieces by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Flourish for Wind Band and Sea Songs.  Larry D.Daehn’s As Summer was Just Beginning is featured as are tunes from J.P. Sousa and John Zdechlik.

The Collegiate Chorale features four selections, including Sound the Trumpet from Franz Joseph Haydn.  The Chorale, under the direction of Robert Hussa, also sings three contemporary a cappella selections composed by American composers. The Road Home is a folk song after the style of a Civil War Hymn, When I Have Sung My Songs to You is a new setting of the familiar text by Z. Randall Stroope, and the last piece is Psalm 57, written by a community college professor in California. This song is in eight parts, and “pulls out all the stops,” Hussa said.

The Handbell Choir, under the direction of Sharon Dalton, performs Rondo Giocoso by Derek K. Hakes, a Hungarian folksong Gypsy Song, and Jubilee Hoedown by Kevin McChesney.
