Wind River Outdoor Writers Conference

The Wind River Outdoor Writers Conference is a gathering of writers--from novice to professional, from merely interested to deeply involved—who work with words in various forms of writing related to the outdoors.


Opportunities include presentations by and chats with book authors and publishers, magazine writers and editors, and bloggers, as well as small discussion groups. (If you are into writing but not necessarily into outdoor writing, you will still reap the benefits of the conference!)


Can I have my writing evaluated by a professional?

Email, as an attachment, a short article, essay, or book chapter at least two weeks prior to May 29. The writers of these samples must be registered for the conference and will have the opportunity to meet privately with an evaluator to maximize the learning expereince.


Where is this all taking place?

At our Sinks Canyon Center, a remote 127-acre campus that rests at the foot of the Wind River Mountains, bordered by red cliffs on the east and the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River on the west. A location ready to inspire. 


Where can I stay?

  • Room in the Orchard House at Sinks Canyon
  • tent sites with a nearby shower house (for an additional fee).
  • motel rooms in Lander, five miles distant (all lodging in Lander can be booked online.


  • The Orchard House is $20/per person/night
  • The tent sites are $7.25/per person/night
  • All rates include use of the shower house.

Bunks on campus and tent sites are available for the weekend for a small fee additional to the conference fee.


What are the fees? 

The conference fee is $150 and includes excellent, catered meals and a $50 registration fee that is non-refundable.


Can I get college credit?

One credit hour in English is available through Central Wyoming College for the college's usual fee per credit hour.
