Thermopolis Outreach

Central Wyoming College, through the Hot Springs Learning Center, provides educational opportunities for area students. Various credit and non-credit courses are available to individuals who want to improve their academic or vocational skills, or to those who want to develop new skills for advanced job opportunities.

A variety of distance delivery methods is available for most students even though the center is approximately 60 miles from the main campus in Riverton. "Live classes" have instructors to teach the classes usually held in school facilities in the evenings. Class offerings include basic courses needed for an Associates Degree from CWC. Classes are available through cooperation with the school district, dual enrollment and Wyoming Equality Network (WEN).

Community facilities such as Gottsche Rehabilitation Center and the warm swimming pools are utilized to provide physical education class credits. Certified nursing assistant classes are provided in collaboration with Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.

The CWC Thermopolis Outreach Center office enables students to accomplish most of their college business. The center is an information and referral service center for the Hot Springs County area. Resources (computer use, financial aid, assistance with class selection and registration, fee payments, forms, placement testing, and contact with the CWC campus) are available from the Thermopolis office. The office is open afternoons during the school year, or special times can be set for morning appointments or during the summer.

About Thermopolis

Nestled against the foothills of the Owl Creek Mountains on the banks of the Big Horn River, Thermopolis offers an excellent climate with very little wind. Thermopolis and the surrounding area provide a wide range of activities including swimming or soaking in hot mineral water, dinosaur digs, walks along the river walk or within Hot Springs State Park and along the terraces, museums, and good food. Thermopolis is a small Wyoming town where the altitude (4500) is higher than the population (3200). It is renowned for the world's largest mineral hot spring and beautiful surroundings.
