THERMOPOLIS OUTREACH CENTER, CONTINUED SERVICE PLEDGED

THERMOPOLIS OUTREACH CENTER, CONTINUED SERVICE PLEDGED

Though Central Wyoming College is closing its Outreach Center in downtown Thermopolis its commitment to Hot Springs County residents continue.

CWC Dean of Workforce and Community Education Lynne McAuliffe said the college will continue to provide educational services in Thermopolis and has dedicated $10,000 in new scholarship funds to Hot Springs County students.

“Budget constraints required CWC to look hard at opportunities to reallocate and utilize existing resources as efficiently as possible,” she said. “The decision was made to put funding into scholarships and services, versus facilities.”

With expanded online course delivery, CWC is witnessing a decline in “in class” student attendance in outreach areas, McAuliffe said. Now CWC students can complete an Associate’s degree completely online.

To further assist Hot Springs County students, CWC plans to bring college advising, registration and financial aid staff to Thermopolis prior to each semester to help in the enrollment process.

The Outreach Center, located at 602 S. Broadway, closes on June 28. Records of students who started a GED at the center are being transferred to CWC’s main campus in Riverton. Students interested in completing their GED may call (307) 855-2193 for information and assistance.

The college also intends to maintain offering workforce training programs in Thermopolis as well as its healthy partnership with Hot Springs County High School to offer concurrent enrollment courses, McAuliffe emphasized.

Information about scholarships and enrollment assistance will be advertised locally. Anyone with questions or concerns may call McAuliffe at (307) 855-2206.
