Central’s Associate of Art degree is designed to help students develop a creative attitude toward presenting and interpreting art forms. Fundamentals are established by investigating various concepts, projects, materials and techniques in both the traditional and the contemporary. Course work provides knowledge, interest and understanding of art as a primary form of visual communication.
The Art Department and Gallery, located in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center at Central Wyoming College, is incredibly unique and versatile. Central is the only community college in the state with a bronze foundry and cold/warm glass medium. Students can try their hand at welding, wood and stone carving while creating unique pieces of artwork. Ceramics students create functional and sculptural pieces using reduction, Raku, and pitfire techniques. Photography students have access to an excellent darkroom, printmaking and multimedia center. Drawing and painting students have access to a large, open air natural light studio.
The AA program in Art is designed to let the student develop a creative attitude toward presenting and interpreting valid art forms. Fundamentals are provided through the investigation of various concepts, projects, materials and techniques in both the traditional and contemporary art. Coursework is directed at providing knowledge, interest and the understanding of art as a primary form of visual communication.
The credentials allow students to focus exclusively on art courses, without taking the General Education Requirements. Art coursework is also application toward a transfer degree in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at other institutions.
