Career Counseling

A counselor can help students examine goals, interests and values as they relate to the choice of a career. The Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator are available to enrolled students free of charge.

The Choices computerized career guidance program is also available to assist students in completing a self-assessment, gathering current occupational information and conducting college searches. The site ID is: 1035322 and the password is: rustler

There is a library containing college directories and career resources located in the Dobler Center. Students are welcome to check these books out.

The COIN career exploration program is available to students as well.

Personal Counseling

The Counseling Office is staffed by a Licensed Professional Counselor who is sensitive to the many issues affecting college students today. Such issues may include homesickness, relationship difficulties, weak academic skills, test anxiety, family concerns, emotional stress, self-esteem, sexual assault/incest, domestic violence, depression, anxiety and addictions. After conducting an intake assessment, if the counselor determines that you may require long term treatment, you will be referred to an appropriate community resource.

Counselors and their clients work jointly in devising counseling plans that offer reasonable promise of success and are consistent with the abilities and circumstances of the client. Counselors regularly review counseling plans to ensure their continued effectiveness, respecting the client’s freedom of choice. Although the counseling staff will work with you to achieve the best possible results for you, it is impossible to guarantee any specific results regarding your counseling goals.

Personal counseling relationships are professional and contacts between client and counselor are expected to be of a professional nature. Sexual intimacies between client and counselor are never appropriate. You have the right to ask questions about your counselor’s credentials and approach. You may also accept or reject any suggested counseling interventions. You may ask to meet with a different counselor. You have the right to report any complaint you may have about counseling services to the Vice President of Student Services.
