Lady Rustlers tap victory in opener conference match

 

Powell, WY – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Volleyball team opened Region IX play with a five game victory over conference foe Northwest.  CWC took a one game lead in the match winning game one 25–22. Then the Lady Trappers won the next two games 16–25 and 24–26. The Lady Trappers were up 21–16 in game four, when CWC came back to win 27–25.  Game five belonged to the Lady Rustlers as they jumped out to a lead and then picked up the victory winning  15–7.

 

The Lady Rustlers were led by Para, Brazil freshman Flavia Araujo with 21 kills for the match. Pernambuco, Brazil sophomore Ana Tenorio had 13 kills to go along with a team high seven blocks. Syracuse, UT freshman Danielle Parker led the team with 23 assists and Evanston, WY sophomore Abigail Ehlers had 10 assists.

 

“We are very happy to have our ladies come back and win tonight. They showed a lot of heart to come back in game four and not let the match go the other way. It’s a good way to start off Region IX play on the road with a victory,”  said Coach Tiffany Stauffenberg. With the victory the Lady Rustlers record now stands at 2–3 overall and 1–0 in Region IX conference play.


CWC now travels to the prestigious Scottsdale Invite at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. The Lady Rustlers will play Thursday, Sept. 6 thru Saturday, Sept. 8 and face some of the top teams in the country. They will return to Region IX play September 14 on the road at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington at 7 p.m.

 

Traveling Lady Rustlers go 7-0 in Scottsdale Invite

 

Scottsdale, AZ – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Volleyball Team went 7–0 last week in the prestigious Scottsdale Invite, hosted by Scottsdale Community College.  The Lady Rustlers defeated Central Arizona College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Phoenix College, Scottsdale Community College, Eastern Arizona College, Pima Community College and Arizona Western College.  With these wins the Lady Rustlers overall record stands at 10–3 and Region IX Conference record at 1–0.
 

CWC defeated Central Arizona in four games 25-21, 25-20, 18-25, and 25-21. Para, Brazil freshman Flavia Araujo led the team with 12 kills and Syracuse, UT freshman Danielle Parker led the team with 28 assists.

 

Chandler-Gilbert Community College was defeated in two games by the scores of 25-13 and 25-23. Freshman Araujo led the way with six kills and Evanston sophomore Abigail Ehlers led the team in assists with six.

 

Phoenix College took the Lady Rustlers to three games before they were defeated by the scores of 19-25, 25-17 and 19-17. Araujo led the team in kills with 10 and Parker lead the team in assists with 14. Gillette  freshman Jess Foy led the team in digs with 24.

 

CWC defeated the host team Scottsdale Community College 25-22 and 28-26. Pernambuco, Brazil, sophomore Ana Tenorio led the team in kills with 12, Parker led the team in assists with 21 and Foy led the team in digs with 14.
 

Eastern Arizona College was taken down by the Lady Rustlers in two hard fought games 28-26 and 25-21. Tenorio led the team in kills again with 10, Parker had 23 assists and Foy had 16 digs.

 

CWC made quick work with Pima Community College defeating them in two games 25-13 and 25-11. It was a total team effort with Foy having the most substantial stats with nine digs.

 

The final game of the Scottsdale Invite CWC took down Arizona Western College in two games 25-18 and 27-25. Tenorio had nine kills, Parker had 21 assists and Foy had nine digs.

 

The Lady Rustlers are back on the road in Region IX Conference play this weekend with games Friday, Sept. 14 in Torrington  vs. Eastern Wyoming College at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 15 in Cheyenne against Laramie County Community College.  Game time is 3 p.m.
