Rustlers go 1 and 3 in first season tournament

 

Salt Lake City, UT – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Volleyball Team started the season 1 – 3 this past weekend in the Salt Lake Community College Tournament. The Rustlers were defeated in the first two games Friday, Aug. 31 by nationally ranked Salt Lake Community College and number one in the nation College of Southern Idaho.

 

The first match was a three game sweep for the Bruins of SLCC, with scores of 13 - 25, 15 -25 and 19-25.  The Lady Rustlers were led by Para, Brazilian freshman Flavia Araujo with nine kills. Pernambuco, Brazilian sophomore Ana Tenorio had six kills. Syracuse, UT freshman Danielle Parker led the team with nine assists and Evanston, WY sophomore Abigail Ehlers had seven assists.

 

The second  match was a three game sweep for the NJCAA number one team in the country College of Southern Idaho. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Rustlers by the scores of 11- 25, 21- 25 and 19-25.  Parker again led the Lady Rustlers in assists with 12.

 

The  Lady Rustlers defeated the Lady Golden Eagles of USU/College of Eastern Utah in the third match.  The scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17. Araujo led the team in kills with 14.  Tenorio was second with 12. Parker and Ehlers both had 20 assists in the match.

 

The fourth and final match saw the Lady Rustlers lose to the Lady Cardinals of North Idaho College by the scores of 17 -25, 17-25 and 12-25. Araujo led the team in kills with four and Ehlers lead the team in assists with nine.

 

“We now know what we need to work on to get ready to open Region IX play next Tuesday against Northwest College," summed up Coach Tiffany Stauffenberg. "We will get back into the gym and make sure we are ready for next Tuesday night.”
