Rustlers in Region IX championship game
Sheridan, WY (November 5) – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Volleyball Team lost Saturday night in the finals of the Region IX Tournament to Western Wyoming Community College in three games, 17–25, 16–25 and 14–25. With the loss the season comes to an end. WWCC now moves on to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Brazilian sophomore Leticia Guimaraes had 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the Lady Rustlers. Rawlins sophomore Kelli Mann led the team with 21 assists. Both Guimaraes and Mann along with Wanine, HI sophomore Jahnday Muliagatele-Marinas, Pocatello, ID sophomore Nicole Meline, Mountain View sophomore Jaci Egley, Billings sophomore Andrea Molen, and Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson played their last game in a Lady Rustler uniform tonight. The Lady Rustlers final record ended at 25–12.
“The semi-final game took a lot out of us, but you have to give Western Wyoming credit. They were the better team tonight and they are one of the top three teams in the country. They will do really well in the national tournament. I’m so proud of our team and what we have accomplished this year. They did a great job and have gone farther than any team here at CWC. Our players really need to be applauded for their effort at this tournament and throughout the year,” Coach Tiffany Stauffenberg said.
Earlier in the day, the Rustlers defeated the Lady Thunderbirds of Casper College in five games (25-11, 25-20. 20-25, 19-25, 15-7) to advance to the finals.
In a recap, Coach Stauffenberg said the Rustlers started "off great and then the momentum swung to Casper. You have to give them credit for fighting back and tying the match, but our ladies wanted to win and dug deep and found a way to put out a victory."
