CWC defeats Casper College; now in second place
Riverton, WY (October 18)– The Lady Rustlers defeated the Lady Thunderbirds of Casper College in three games Tuesday to take sole possession of 2nd place in conference play. The match scores were 25 – 17, 25 -23, and 25 – 21. With the victory the Lady Rustlers are now 21 – 8 on the year and 10–2 in conference play.
CWC was lead by Syracuse, UT freshman Kaitlyn Tracy with 14 Kills. Rawlins sophomore Kelli Mann led the team with 35 assists, while Mountain View sophomore Jaci Egley had a great defensive game on the back line with 11 digs. CWC’s All-American candidate, Brazilian sophomore Leticia Guimaraes had nine kills and 15 digs.
“Tonight was a great team victory for us. The ladies came out and executed the game plan. We were able to get out in front quick in the first game. In the second game, we had to battle back, but once we took the lead, we knew we were not going to give it back. Game three was just a tough battle that we earned the victory. I could not be more proud of our team, but we get to enjoy for one night before we take on the number three team in the country Wednesday night,” Coach Tiffany Stauffenberg said.
The Lady Rustlers now look forward to Wednesday night as they take on the NJCAA number three ranked Lady Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College. WWCC is also the top team in the conference with an 11–0 conference record and 28–2 on the year. The match is set for the first serve to take place at 7 p.m. CWC also looks to build on its attendance from Tuesday which was 427.
