Lady Rustlers win first round against Western Nebraska
Casper, WY (March 10) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team defeated Western Nebraska Community college in the first round of the Region IX Tournament. The Lady Rustlers defeated the Lady Cougars 67-59. The Lady Rustlers were down at half by three points,28-31, then outscored the Lady Cougars by 11 in the second half.
The Lady Rustlers were led by Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson had 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting. Rock Springs freshman Porsha Wadsworth had 12 points on 5 of 5 shooting and Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson had 11 points in her return to the court. Mountain View freshman Emily Smith had 11 points as well in the victory.
“This was a great team effort. Our ladies came out and played. We were able to shut down Western Nebraska’s threats at the end of the game. Now we will see what happens tomorrow,” said Coach Serol Stauffenberg
