Lady Rustlers suffer loss in last game, prep for Region IX

Torrington, WY (March 2) The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team lost to the Lady Lancers of Eastern Wyoming College 81-73.  With the loss the Lady Rustlers record for the regular season ends at 13–16.

Mountain View freshman Emily Smith led the Lady Rustlers with 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting and had a double/double with 10 rebounds. Preston, ID freshman Elise Keller had a double/double as well with 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting and a team leading 13 rebounds.  Randi Prosenick had 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting from 3 and Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen had 10 points to go with 8 rebounds.

“The Ladies battled tonight. We just were not able to get over the hump.  We got off to a sluggish start I think because of the travel, but we seemed a step slow until late in the game.  I’m very happy that our two freshman had very good games.  This should give them some confidence going into the region tournament.  We just were not able to catch them at the end, but the nice thing is we are still playing and we have a chance,”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

The Lady Rustlers enter the Region IX tournament as the sixth seed for the Northern Conference and play at 3 p.m. at Casper College against Western Nebraska. The game can be heard live on FM 88.1 and seen live over the internet online on Casper College’s website.
