Lady Rustlers win conference game


Crow Agency, MT (February 28) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Rams of Little Big Horn College 67-59 to end conference play.  With the victory the Lady Rustlers record  is 13–15 and 6–10 in conference play.


Behind the strong play of sophomores Brynlie Nielson of Spanish Fork, UT, Courtney Patterson of Rock Springs and Freshman Elise Keller of Preston, ID the Lady Rustlers took a 39-27 lead into halftime. In the second half the Lady Rustlers were able to build a good lead to keep the Lady Rams at bay.


Patterson led the Lady Rustlers with 14 points.  Nielson and Keller both had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the team in the rebounding category.  Nielson also led the Rustlers in assists.


“I’m very happy to get the road victory. It's also great that freshman Marissa Hogan was able to come back to her home town and play well in front of family and friends.  We can now build on this and get ready for our last game and then the tournament,” Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.


The Lady Rustlers travael to Torrington to take on the Lady Lancers of Eastern Wyoming College on Friday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m.  The game can be heard live on FM 88.1.  The Lady Rustlers won the first contest this year, defeating the Lady Lancers 98-59.  This is a non-conference game for both teams.  The Lady Rustlers will be the sixth seed in the Region IX Tournament March 9-13 at Casper College
