Double overtime nets big victory for Central

 

Riverton, WY (February 8) – The Central Wyoming College Lady Rustlers defeated the Lady Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College 83- 80 in a double overtime victory.  Tied at 61 at the end of regulation, both teams scored eight points in the first overtime. The Lady Rustlers gutted out to win by three in the second overtime.  With the win the Lady Rustlers improve to 11 and 11 on the year and 4-7 in conference play.

 

The Lady Rustlers had five players foul out in the game but were led by Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  Preston, ID freshman Elise Keller had 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Sydney, Australia sophomore Jacki Nicholson had 12 points and Crow Agency, MT freshman Marissa Hogan helped the Rustler cause with 14 points in the win.

 

Coach Serol Stauffenberg was pleased with the victory. "I’m so happy for our girls; they came out and played hard tonight.  This was a great confidence boost for them and hopefully we can build on this.  We are going to be a tough team come tournament time,” he said.

 

The Lady Rustlers take on the Lady Generals of Sheridan College this Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.  The game can be seen live at locally on Channel 5 and over the internet at www.cwc.edu.  The game can also be heard live on FM 88.1.

 

Lady Rustlers fall to Casper College

 

Casper, WY (February 4) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team lost to nationally ranked Casper College 57-52 Saturday afternoon. It was a hard fought game.  The Lady Rustlers led at halftime by the score of 27 to 21. The Lady Thunderbirds did a very good job of pressuring the Lady Rustlers to take the lead right at the end.

 

Sydney, Australia sophomore Jacki Nicholson led all scorers with 14 and was 3 of 6 from behind the three point line.  Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson had 12 points and Mountain View freshman Emily Smith had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Rustlers.

 

“I thought the ladies did a very good job at the first part of the game especially against this nationally ranked team.We just couldn’t finish off the game tonight.  Casper got into us late in the game and some of the same things we did at the start of the game just didn’t happen at the end. Casper is a very good team and the deserved to win, but our Ladies put up a great effort,”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg concluded.

 

With the loss the Lady Rustlers record stands at 10–11 on the year and 3–7 in conference play. Commanding win on road boosts Lady Rustlers record

 

Powell, WY (February 1) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Trappers of Northwest College,76-53. They used a 26 to 5 run to open the game and kept that margin throughout the game for the win. The Lady Rustlers record improves to 10–10 on the year and 3–6 in conference play.

 

Sydney, Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson led the Lady Rustlers with 31 points. Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen had a double/double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.Rock Springs sophomore courtney Patterson and Mountain View freshman Emily Smith both finished with 10 points each. Preston, ID freshman Elise Keller grabbed 9 rebounds and Rock Springs freshman Porsha Wadsworth came off the bench and scored 8 points.

 

“I thought the Ladies were really focused tonight as we started the game.  They did a tremendous job of attacking Northwest College where we felt their weakness was. Our defense might have been the best we have played at times this year. I also thought we did a very good job of moving the ball and making the extra pass”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

On Saturday, the Lady Rustlers travel to Casper to take on the first place Lady Thunderbirds, whose record is 19–2 overall and 8–1 in conference play.  Tipoff is 3 p.m.  This will be the second match up between the two teams with the T-birds defeating the Lady Rustlers 55-45 on December 10 in Riverton.

 

Lady Rustlers post solid victory against Rams

 

Riverton, WY (January 28) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team defeated Little Big Horn College 98-70 on Saturday. With the win the Lady Rustlers move their record to 9–10 on the year and 2–6 in conference play.

 

The Lady Rustlers were led by Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson with 28 points and four assists.  Rock Springs freshman Porsha Wadsworth had 16 points, while Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson had 14 points. Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen had eight points and led the team with nine rebounds tonight.

 

“I’m very happy for our ladies that they were able to get a solid win tonight. Everyone contributed tonight.  I can’t really single one or two people out because we had a very good team effort from everyone. Now we need to build on this as we get ready for our rematch with Northwest on Wednesday,”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

The Lady Rustlers travel to Northwest College Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m.  This will be the second match up of the year between the teams with the Lady Trappers pulling off a 49–41 victory in December.  The Lady Trappers are 11–10 on the year and 3–5 in conference play. The game can be seen live over the internet on Northwest College’s web site.

 

Lady Rustlers play tough but fall to Lady Lancers

 

Riverton, WY (January 26) – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Basketball Team lost to Eastern Wyoming College in a non-conference match up to Eastern Wyoming College, 61-60. With the loss the Lady Rustlers record drops to 8 and 10 on the year.

 

Brynlie Nielsen, a sophomore from Spanish Fork, UT led the Rustlers with 23 points.  Nibley, UT sophomore Brynn Foster had double figures tonight as well with 10 points.  Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson snagged nine rebounds.

 

“Tonight the ladies played hard we just were not able to pull off the victory.  I thought when we took the lead with 12 seconds to play; I really thought we would be able to hold on for the victory.  Unfortunately it was not to be.  The ladies will be ready to play on Saturday,”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

Rustlers defeat Buccaneers, post first conference win

 

Glendive, MT (January 21) – The CWC women's basketball team defeated Dawson Community College on the road, 64-59. In was a hard fought game with the Lady Rustlers emerging victorious. The win moves the Lady Rustlers to a record of 8-9 for the year and 1-6 in conference play.

 

Leading the Rustlers was Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson with 25 points. She went to the free throw line 18 times and made 13 of those attempts. Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen had 15 points going 6-12 from the field. Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson recorded 10 points.

 

"I'm happy for our ladies tonight," Coach Serol Stauffenberg commented. "They found a way to get the win. Their hard work is paying off and it is nice to be rewarded. This is a long way to come, but the bus ride home will be a lot better for the ladies because of the win."

 

The Lady Rustlers take on the EWC Lady Lancers in a non-conference game Thursday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on FM88.1, and seen live on cable channel 5. Fans may also view it over the internet at cwc.edu, then click on "watch basketball games."

 

Rustlers drop one to Lady Pronghorns

 

Riverton, WY (January 18) – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Basketball

Team were defeated tonight by Gillette College, 66-62. A close game throughout, the Lady Pronghorns were able to hold on for the victory. With the defeat the Lady Rustlers record now stands at 7–9 on the year and 0–6 in conference play.

 

Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson led the Rustlers with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the night.  Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson had 16 points and Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen had 10 points to help the Lady Rustlers cause tonight.

 

“I can’t fault the ladies effort tonight.  We just could not get a break when we needed it tonight.  It’s going to happen.  They are working hard and doing what is asked of them,” Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

The Lady Rustlers travel to Glendive, MT to take on the Lady Buccaneers of Dawson Community College.  Dawson Community College has an overall record of 2–8 on the year and 1–3 in conference play.  The game can be seen live over the interned on Dawson Community College’s web site.  Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

 

 

Lady Rustlers fall to Miles City

 

Riverton, WY (January 14) – The CWC women’s basketball Team lost a hard fought game to Miles City 71-53.  It was a four point game with about a minute forty-seven left on the clock, when a controversial call by the officiating crew took place.  Miles City’s made their free throws down the stretch to hold onto the victory.   With the loss the Lady Rustlers drop to 7– 8 on the year and 0–5 in conference play.

 

The Lady Rustlers were led by Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson with 20 points and eight rebounds.  She was five of ten shooting and 50% from behind the 3 point line with three of six shooting.  Mt. View freshman Emily Smith had a very nice game in the post scoring 11 points on three of five shooting and going five of six from the free throw line.

 

“Tonight I thought our effort was good.  We made some mistakes but the Ladies battled back and were putting us in a position to take the lead at the end, but unfortunately things didn’t work out that way.  We will get back to practice on Monday and get ready for Gillette College,”   Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

The Lady Rustlers take on Gillette College Wednesday night, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m.  Gillette is 10–7 on the year and 3–1 in conference play.  The game can be seen live on channel 5 and over the internet at www.cwc.edu or heard over the air waves on FM 88.1.

 

 

Lady Rustlers lose thrilling game in Sheridan

 

Sheridan, WY (January 11) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team lost a very close contest to the Lady Generals of Sheridan College 72-65.  With the loss the Lady Rustlers drop to 7–7 on the year and 0–4 in conference play.

 

Rock Springs sophomore Courtney Patterson led the Lady Rustlers with 15 points. Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielson had 14 points to go with a team leading six rebounds. Mountain View freshman Emily Smith scored 12 points for the Lady Rustlers in the post.

 

“You have to give Sheridan College credit tonight. They finished the game. We made one too many mistakes at the end of the game to pull it off. Our Ladies battled tonight. We just were not able to pull it off. We will look forward to the rematch at our place,” Coach Serol Stauffenberg concluded.

 

 

Rustlers post loss on the road

 

Rock Springs, WY (January 7) - The CWC women’s basketball team was defeated on the road tonight at Western Wyoming Community College 82-47.  With the loss, the Lady Rustlers drop to 7-6 on the year and 0–3 in conference.

 

Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson led the Lady Rustlers with 13 points.  While Rock Springs native Porsha Wadsworth had nine points and five rebounds playing in her hometown, sophomore Courtney Patterson had seven points and four rebounds in her hometown as well.  Preston, ID freshman Elsie Keller led the Lady Rustlers in rebounding with six.

 

“Tonight was one of those nights. We just were not able to get much going. They got hot and we were unable to catch up to them tonight,"  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

Lady Rustlers split first two games in Valley of the Sun

 

Scottsdale, AZ (Dec 15) - The Central Wyoming College Women's Basketball Team has split their 1st two games while playing in the Phoenix, AZ area.  Wednesday night the Lady Rustlers lost 60 to 55 to Chandler-Gilbert College.  Last night the Lady Rustlers defeated Scottsdale Community College by the score of 55 to 46.

 

"We played much better tonight then we did last night.  We were able to move the ball and follow more of the game plan then we were the 1st night,"  Coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

 

With the win the Lady Rustler's record now stands at 7 - 3 on the year.  They will take on South Mountain Community College tonight and then Mesa Community College tomorrow.

 

 

Lady Rustlers fall to Lady Thunderbirds

 

Riverton, WY (Dec. 10) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team lost Saturday night to Casper College, 55-45.  With the loss the Lady Rustlers drop to 6–2 for the year and 0–2 in conference play.

 

Sydney, Australia sophomore Jacki Nicholson led the Lady Rustlers with 17 points.  She was the only Lady Rustler in double figures.  Mountain View, WY freshman Emily Smith led the team in rebounding with seven boards.

 

“We just were not able to sustain our play tonight. The Ladies played hard against one of the top teams in the nation tonight. Not to make excuses, but we are a little undermanned with injures that hit us of late, but we are getting better and when you add those that are out we are going to be very good,”  Coach Serol Stauffenberg concluded.

 

The team travelsl to Gilbert, AZ to take on Chandler-Gilbert Community College and then play the next three days vs. Arizona community colleges including Scottsdale Community College, South Mountain Community College and Mesa Community College.

 

Lady Rustlers edged out in first conference game

 

Riverton, WY (December 7) - The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team was defeated by Northwest College, 49-41. With the defeat the Lady Rustlers drop to 6–1 and 0–1 in conference play. The Lady Trappers used their rebound edge of 17 to help with the victory.

 

The Rustlers were led by Rock Springs, WY sophomore Courtney Patterson with 12 points. Sydney, Australia sophomore Jacki Nicholson had 10 points. Spanish Fork, UT sophomore Brynlie Nielsen was held scoreless for the first time this year but lead the team with 13 rebounds.

 

“Not to sound cliché but tonight was just not our night.  If you had told me that Brynlie would be scoreless and we still had a chance to win.  I would have said you're crazy, "said Coach SErol STauffenberg.  "Unfortunately the ball just did not bounce our way.  The ladies played hard we just were not able to pull off the win tonight.  Give Northwest credit then made the plays at the end of the game to win and that’s what happened.”

 

The Lady Rustlers host Casper College who defeated Western Wyoming Wednesday ngiht and are in 1-0 in conference play.  Game time is 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and can be heard live on FM 88.1 or seen live over the internet at www.cwc.edu.

 

 

Lady Rustlers add another victory

 

Miles City, MT (December 3) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team improved their record to 6 – 0 on the year with a 69–61 win over the University of Montana-Western. This was the final game for the Lady Rustlers in the Miles City Classic.

 

The Rustlers started off slow, but with the help of sophomores Brynlie Nielson and Jacki Nicholson, they were able take the lead and go into the locker room at half up 35 to 25.  Nielson a Spanish Fork, UT native lead the Lady Rustlers with 23 points and seven rebounds.  Nicholson a native of Sydney, Australia had 19 points in the victory tonight.  Perry, UT native freshman Kaylee Walker helped out on the boards with eight.

 

“We started off very sluggish tonight, but we were able to fight through it and get the lead.  In the second half we were able to maintain and finish with the victory. Next week vs. Northwest we will have to pick it up if we want to continue our streak and compete for the Region IX Title. These Ladies are working hard and each day we continue to improve in areas of the game,” Coach Serol Stauffenberg concluded.

 

On Wednesday, Dec. 7 the Lady Rustlers open conference play with a home game against Northwest College. The game begins at 5:30 p.m. Tune in to FM radio 88.1, over the internet at www.cwc.edu, or locally on Channel 5.

 

Rustler post win over Great Falls

 

Miles City, MT (December 2) – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Basketball defeated the University of Great Falls, 69 – 31. With the win the Lady Rustlers improve to 5-0 on the year.

 

Freshman and Montana native Marissa Hogan made her state homecoming worthwhile with 11 points on the night. Australian sophomore Jacki Nicholson led the Lady Rustlers with 18 points to go with her eight rebounds on the night. She opened the game with two straight three point shots, shooting 7 for 14 for the night.

 

“The Ladies did a really good job on defense tonight and followed our game plan. We were a little shorthanded due to injuries but we were able to just continue to play hard all night, said Coach Serol Stauffenberg.  "Two ladies in double figures and another three with eight points each, so I thought we moved the ball well.”

 

Defensive effort leads CWC to victory

 

Riverton, WY (Nov. 19) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team took care of Blackfeet Community College 74-22 in the second night of the Electrical Dynamics Classic. They held the Lady Pikuini Thunder to only seven points in the first half.

 

Brynn Foster, sophomore from Nibley, UT and Jacki Nicholson, sophomore from Sydney, Australia lead the Lady Rustlers with 11 points each. Mountain View, WY native, freshman Emily Smith had 10 points. Sophomore Randi Prosenick from Wright had 10 rebounds to go with her eight points on the night.

 

“The Ladies did a really good job of following the game plan tonight. We did a great job of defensive rebounding and on offense moving the ball for a good open shot. Our sophomores are doing a very good job of being leaders out on the court and its showing,” Coach Serol Stauffenberg commented.

 

With the win the Lady Rustlers record now stands at 4- 0 on the season. The Lady Rustlers will now be off until they depart to play in the Miles City Community College Classic Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3. The Lady Rustlers will be taking on the University of Great Falls and Western Montana College, both of the NAIA Frontier Conference.

 

Rustlers chalk up victory over Nebraska Tech

 

Riverton, WY (Nov. 18) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team improved their record to 3-0 on the first night of the Electrical Dynamics Classic, by defeating Nebraska Tech 94-22.  The Lady Rustlers defense created 34 turnovers on their way to victory.

 

CWC had six players in double figures.  Rock Spring, WY native Courtney Patterson lead the team with 13 points.  Sydney, Australia native Jacki Nicholson had 12 points, while Preston, ID native Elise Keller and Nibley, UT native Brynlie Nielsen had 11 points apiece. Rounding out the double figure scorers were Perry, UT native Kaylee Walker and Bountiful, UT native Samantha Hart with 10 points each.

 

“I thought the Ladies did a really good job of defending as you can tell by the amount of turnovers we created.  I also thought we did a good job of moving the basketball and getting everyone involved with the offense and when you shoot 50% on the night you are going to win a lot of ball games,” said Coach Serol Stauffenberg.

 

The Lady Rustlers will now take on Blackfeet Community College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday night in the final round games of the Electrical Dynamics Classic.

 

 

Lady Rustlers pick up second win at Bailey tournament

 
Riverton, WY (Nov. 12) – The Central Wyoming College women’s basketball team defeated Stone Child College 90 to 35 for their second win of the season and a second win of the Bailey Tire Tip Off Classic. With the win CWC’s record is now 2 – 0 on the season.
 
Rock Springs, Wyo., sophomore Courtney Patterson led the Lady Rustlers with 25 points. Elise Keller of Preston, Idaho had 12 and Brynn Foster a sophomore from Nibley, Utah had 10. The Lady Rustlers also out rebounded Stone Child 55 to 34. Leading the way was freshman Kaylee Walker of Perry, Utah with nine.
 
“Tonight was a good night; in fact the whole Bailey Tire Tip Off was good for us,” said Coach Serol Stauffenberg.  “We were able to come out and execute and get things accomplished.  The ladies played hard all weekend and showed that if they will keep working hard we have a good chance of being a good team.” 
 
Next weekend, the Lady Rustlers take part in the Electrical Dynamics Classic, with an opening round game against the University of Nebraska –College of Technical Agricultural, otherwise none as Nebraska Tech. They are a four-year university that plays at the NAIA and United State Collegiate Athletic Association. This is not a junior varsity team. This will be the first time a university comes to Riverton, to play Central Wyoming College. Tip Off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. for Friday, Nov. 18.

 

Women open season with big win

Riverton, WY (Nov. 11) – The Central Wyoming College Women’s Basketball Team open up the first game of the season with a 108 to 18 win over Aaniiih Nakota College during the opening night of the Bailey Tire Tip Off Classic.  
 
The Lady Rustlers had a very balanced scoring night with four players in double figures. Leading the way was Rock Springs, Wyo., sophomore Courtney Patterson with 20 points.   Crow Agency, Mont., freshman Marissa Hogan added 16 points, Spanish Fork, Utah sophomore Brynile Nielsen had 13 points and the other Lady Rustler in double figures was Rock Springs, Wyo.,freshman Porsha Wadsworth.
 
“We had a good effort tonight," said Coach Serol Stauffenberg. "It was nice to go up against someone other than ourselves. I thought the ladies played hard and together. We still have things to work on, but it was a very good effort for our first game of the season.” 

The Lady Rustlers  take on Stone Child College in the second day of the Bailey Tire Tip Off Classic. Stone Child College lost tonight to Western Wyoming Community College tonight by a score of 90 to 39. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
