Rustlers defeat Nebraska Tech
Riverton, WY (Nov. 18) – The Central Wyoming College men’s basketball team defeated Nebraska Tech on the first night of the Electrical Dynamics Classic, 125-37. The Rustlers played a pressure half-court defense and created 41 turnovers to help defeat the Aggies.
CWC out rebounded NATC by 26 lead by freshman Dax Upton, the Vernal, UT native. They also had 28 assists for the game to help their cause. Leading the team in scoring was North Hills, CA native sophomore James “Deuce” Johnson with 23 points on 9 of 12 shooting with 7 rebounds in 21 minutes of play. Freshman Malachi Roberts of East Wenatchee, WA had 18 points, while going 3 for 4 from behind the arc. Freshman point guard Jordan Phouthavong from West Valley City, UT had 16 points to go with his eight assists. Las Vegas, NV sophomore Ali Sabra had 16 points, while another Las Vegas, NV native freshman Davion Pearson had 13 points and a team leading nine assists. The third Las Vegas, NV native freshman Kyler Williams had a career night with 10 points.
Coach Curtis Condie said, “I thought we played with very good energy and ball movement to start the game. We were able to use our athleticism to put pressure on them to build that lead in the first half. We also were able to control the boards, so that they would not get any second chance shots.”
The Rustlers now stand at 5-0 and will now take on Blackfeet Community College, who lost to Miles City Community College 97-70 in their first round matchup of the Electrical Dynamics Classic.
