Rustlers defeated in conference opener
Riverton, WY (December 7) – The Central Wyoming College men’s basketball team was defeated by the Northwest College Trappers in the conference opener, 72 to 66. The Rustlers record now stands at 9–2 overall and 0–1 in conference play.
The Rustlers had four student-athletes in double figures. Sophomore Malachi Roberts led the Rustlers with 23 points. Freshman Armani Flannigan and Sophomore James “Deuce” Johnson both had double/doubles. Flannigan had 12 points and 10 rebounds while “Deuce” had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Davion Pearson had 11 points to go with six assists. The Rustlers did win the rebound battle, but that wasn’t enough to hold off the Trappers.
“I talked all week in preparation about finishing, from cuts, to defensive possessions, to baskets. Unfortunately tonight we were not the team that did that. Northwest earned tonight’s victory. We just need to get back in the gym and get better at our non-strengths,” Coach Curtis Condie said.
The Rustlers will take on Casper College who lost Wednesday to Western Wyoming Community College, 72-71. The game is Saturday night, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Rustler Gymnasium. The game can be heard live at FM 88.1 and seen live over the internet at www.cwc.edu.
