Financial Aid Process

CWC Financial Aid priority deadline: April 15 of each year

Financial Aid Process Step-by-Step

  1. If you do not already have a U.S. Department of Education PIN (Personal Identification Number), apply for one at www.pin.ed.gov. You need a PIN to electronically submit your FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid). If you are a dependent student (under the age of 24), your parents need to apply for a PIN also to electronically sign your FAFSA. Your PIN will be e-mailed to you within one to five days. If you do not provide an e-mail address, your PIN will be mailed to your address within seven to ten days.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online www.fafsa.ed.gov . Processing generally requires from four to six weeks. Copies of these forms are available from the CWC Financial Aid Office as well. CWC's federal school code is: 005018.
  3. Students receive a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) upon completion of processing. CWC will receive a copy electronically from the Department of Education Federal Processor. Students should check the SAR for accuracy and forward corrections to the CWC Financial Aid Office.
  4. Students are also required to complete the CWC Financial Aid Application. This application will be forwarded to you upon receipt of your electronic Student Aid Report from the Department of Education Federal Processor. The completed application must be forwarded with a photocopy of the most recent United States income tax return to the Financial Aid Office. Dependent students are required to provide a photocopy of their parents' or guardians' income tax return.
  5. Complete the CWC Admission Application.
  6. Request an official copy of your high school transcript with graduation date be sent directly to Records and Research (An official high school transcript is not required for any student who already has a bachelor's degree.)
  7. Request an official copy of all previously attended college transcripts be sent directly to the Records and Research Office.

What to expect after you apply for financial aid:

Once you file your FAFSA, either on-line or by paper, you will receive confirmation of receipt of your application from the central processor. The Department of Education will send you a Student Aid Report or an Information Acknowledgment that will give you a summary of your application, and notify you if there are problems with your information that you will need to resolve.

If you listed CWC on your FAFSA (school code 005018), we will receive an electronic copy of your Student Aid Report. Our office will contact you for additional information.

Once we receive all your information and process your file, we will mail you an award notification letter.

You will have a chance to review your financial aid package, and accept, reject, or revise your awards.
