CWC's Summer English Language Institute (SELI) is designed for international students who plan to come to CWC to study but don't meet the TOEFL requirement (500 paper-based/175 computer-based/60 internet-based) and/or individuals who need to improve their English skills. International students must still have a minimum TOEFL of 425 paper-based/150 computer-based/ 55 internet-based.
The purpose of the SELI is to help students improve their English skills so that they can begin college-level courses in the fall semester and communicate more successfully within an English-speaking community.
Courses include English reading, writing, speaking, listening, and American culture.
Students who want to continue with college-level courses are required to take a campus placement exam (or the TOEFL, depending on the transfer school requirements) as the final evaluation of their work in the Institute. The score on this exam also determines placement in English classes for the fall semester at CWC.
Field trips may vary but usually include the following: a tour of the Wind River Indian Reservation, a visit to South Pass (a preserved 19th century mining town), participation in a Native American pow wow, a hike in the Wind River Mountains, dinner at a buffalo barbecue, a weekend camping trip and a visit toYellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks.
Class lectures are Monday through Thursday from 9-12 pm and 1-4 pm. Fridays are for scheduled field trips.
The ESL classes will be taught by a CWC English instructor.
SELI runs from late July through the end of August. Please contact CWC for specific dates.
The total cost of the program, including room, board, and textbooks, depends on the number of students enrolled. If six or more students participate, the total cost is $1700. If five or less students are enrolled, the cost is $2000.
Each non-resident student will stay with a pre-arranged host family off campus. The family will provide your meals and be responsible for bringing you to and picking you up from campus.
