Selection Process

Admission to the nursing program is competitive. Each year, 24-32 students will be selected to enter the on campus program in Riverton, and 8-16 students will be accepted to enter the program at a distance site in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The number of admissions will be limited to faculty to student ratios and available clinical practice sites.

Acceptance to the nursing program is not automatic. The nursing admission committee selects applicants for entry into the nursing program in March of each year using the following criteria and point scoring system. Applicants are rank ordered according to their total points. An alternate list is maintained for each cohort in the event an applicant declines their acceptance.

1. Minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The GPA will be calculated using only courses required for the associate of applied science degree in nursing at Central Wyoming College, and completed with a grade of C or higher.

Seven (7) points will be awarded to recent high school graduates who have been out of high school for less than one year and to current high school seniors applying for admission to the nursing program with an ACT composite score of 25 or higher, and with less than 6 college credits earned. This excludes applicants out of high school for more than one year.

5. Licensed practical nurses (LPN) who wish to be considered for admission to the program in the first semester will be awarded three (3) points for an active, unencumbered Wyoming LPN license.
