CO/M 2050 – Introductory Broadcasting. 3 credits (T)
This survey course focuses on the development of operations and programming practices in broadcasting/ telecommunications. The class covers the early practices of broadcasting facilities as well as the current methods and trends. The students will also study audience research, social aspects of telecommunications and some of the global roles of broadcasting. (3 lect.)
CO/M 2165 – Electronic Media Writing. 3 credits (Max 6) (T)
This course centers on the basic skills and practice of various media planning and writing. Emphasis will be on commercial writing, electronic media journalism, program planning and internet production. Students will be introduced to scripting techniques used in various types of program formats. Some of the course will be individualized to meet student learning needs. This course may be repeated for maximum of six credits applicable toward graduation. Prerequisite: Student should be enrolled in ENGL 0620 or test into ENGL 1010. (2 lect., 3 lab)
CO/M 2200 – Electronic Media Production. 3 credits (Max 12) (E)
This course explores basic principles and proper use of electronic media tools. Students will need to take this course four times in order to take full advantage of all skills available. Each course will deal with both audio and visual tools. The courses focus on specific techniques used in the production process. This course may be repeated for a maximum of twelve credits applicable toward graduation. (2 lect., 3 lab) ARTS
CO/M 2240 (CO/M 2220)– Television Operations I. 4 credits
This is an introductory television production operations course. This course explores the functions of a television production system, the major pieces of television production equipment and their operation, and the functions of production personnel. Students will be provided opportunities for hand-on training in various areas of operation of television production equipment. (1 lect, 6 lab)
CO/M 2245 – Television Operations II. 4 credits
This is an advanced television production course. This course explores the duties and responsibilities of a television studio producer, and the functions of production personnel in a studio. Students will be provided opportunities for hands-on training in various areas of a television production. Prerequisite: Completion of CO/M 2240. (1 lect, 6 lab)
CO/M 2450 – Electronic Media Speech & Performance. 3 credits (T) (Max 6)
This course is a concentrated study of the various types of electronic media speech and performance. Emphasis is given to different methods of presentations and program formats. Practical application of performance will be stressed. This course may be repeated for maximum of six credits applicable toward graduation. (2 lect., 3 lab)
CO/M 2455 – Television Field Production I. 3 credits
This course is designed to develop the students’ skills in using a single camera for television field production. The course is an overview of various field production scenarios with emphasis placed on the use of the camera, lighting, sound, and nonlinear editing techniques. This is a field-based course in which students will be required to shoot television productions outside of a traditional classroom setting. (1 lect., 4 lab)
CO/M 2460 – Electronic Media Practicum. 4 credits (Max. 16) (T)
This course introduces electronic media applications to students through laboratory experiences. Students will be introduced to electronic media day-to-day operations through laboratory situations requiring performance and operational standards. Students will have the opportunity to satisfy some laboratory requirements by assuming KCWC-FM station responsibilities since students generally fill station positions as openings permit. Students also have the opportunity to work in production and operations at Wyoming Public Television, as well as other electronic media situations as they develop. This course may be repeated for maximum of sixteen credits applicable toward graduation. (12 lab)
CO/M 2465 – Television Field Production II. 3 credits
This course focuses on electronic newsgathering, documentaries, sports shows, and creating fictional narratives. It stresses script analysis, working effectively with the community, classmates, and with actors. This course highlights effective lighting design and organizational skills and processes commonly used in pre-production, production and post-production. Skills developed in previous TV courses are amplified, enhanced, and refined through a combination of in-class exercises and outside projects. Emphasis is placed on the development of ideas, storytelling, and greater sophistication in all areas of electronic field production. Prerequisite: Completion of CO/M 2245 and CO/M 2455, (1 lect., 4 lab)
CO/M 2475 – Advanced Television Production. 3 credits
This course focuses on developing long-form documentaries to air on Rustler Television. Skills developed in previous television courses are amplified, enhanced, and refined through the development of ideas, storytelling, and a greater sophistication in all areas of electronic field production. Prerequisite: Completion of CO/M 2465. (1 lect., 4 lab)
