HLC Self Study

A team from the Higher Learning Commission, conducting a comprehensive site visit at Central Wyoming College October 10-12, 2005 recommended CWC be granted the maximum 10-year continued accreditation.

Following an extensive self study, Central Wyoming College prepared for the site visit by the team, which included a process that began in 2003 to explore opportunities for improvement and revitalization. The process, a campus-wide effort involving the entire college community, recognized the accomplishments and triumphs, as well as the challenges facing CWC. It resulted in the HLC Self Study document.

The study involved the efforts of 21 core component teams who gathered information and analyzed evidence to draw conclusions.

Voluntary accreditation in higher education originated almost a century ago as a uniquely American process. Voluntary accreditation has two fundamental purposes: quality assurance and institutional and program advancement.

Central Wyoming College has been accredited by the NCA since March 1976. The Higher Learning Commission of the NCA evaluates an entire organization and accredits it as a whole. The Higher Learning Commission assesses the college on five criteria: mission and integrity; preparing for the future; student learning and effective teaching; acquisition, discovery, and application of knowledge; and engagement of services.
